Stories matter …
It goes without saying that I love writing and have a proven track record of success. But what I also love is hearing people’s stories and doing a deep dive into the information they’ve gleaned throughout their lives. I believe it’s this love of (and fascination with!) each person’s strengths, challenges, nuances, and general life path that makes me an exceptional writer and writing partner. Throughout the course of my ghostwriting career, I’ve adopted many different voices and written books through many different filters. Every time, it is a unique adventure, challenge, and partnership that I adore.
… and so do good editorial partnerships
Even though it’s an over-used analogy, I still have to use it because it’s true: partnering on a book project is a lot like finding the right romantic partner. You have to have chemistry and enjoy spending time together (either virtually or in person), or it’s just not going to work. At best, the process won’t be fun; at worst, the book won’t live up to its potential.
This is why I’m selective with my clients, and I’m never going to try to sell you on working with me (nor will I work with you if I feel like I’m not the best match for you or your project). I begin every project with a conversation and take it from there. I also recommend that every potential client I speak with also talks with other professional writers and editors.
Writing is very human work, and work that involves trust and an exceptional working relationship. Before beginning any project, it’s important to get a sense of the personality, style, and philosophy that will work best for you. This is the first—and one of the most important—steps to creating a book that shines.
