Over the past few years, I’ve spent most of my time collaborating with other people on their projects. And, don’t get me wrong, this has been incredible! I’m so lucky to have the opportunity to work closely with amazing people who are doing important things and making great—and sometimes even groundbreaking—contributions to the world on a daily basis. But what this has meant is that, recently, I haven’t put a lot of time or energy into my own projects. The Balanced Ninja is me coming back to that on a regular basis.
Despite the title of the site, The Balanced Ninja has nothing to do with covert ops. “Ninja” is derived from two Japanese characters: nin, which means “persevere," and ja, which means “person.” So, basically, a ninja is a person who perseveres. And we’re all at our best and have the most perseverance when we find balance in our lives—this includes mind, body, heart, and spirit.
With that in mind, The Balanced Ninja is basically the coalescence of a lot of my passions and interests. It incorporates personal writing, some of the information I’ve gleaned as a yoga student and teacher, and knowledge I’ve picked up over the years as I’ve worked with a collection of incredible wellness professionals. It’s about self-care and strength-training in a holistic way—in other words, becoming the strongest, most resilient version of ourselves in body, mind, heart, and spirit.
As an entrepreneur and single mom, I know how easy it is to take care of everyone else *except* yourself. And, at the end of the day, none of us can really find happiness or offer our best, most whole self to the world if we’re not carving out at least some little moments for ourselves on a regular basis—for our health and wellness, for our passions, for our dreams, and for little moments of joy. The Balanced Ninja is a way of offering tips for doing that and, also, for keeping myself accountable.
